Signal Check

An Open Broadband representative will perform a site evaluation to determine if your residence is a candidate for service. If your home is serviceable the representative will let you know what packages and speeds are available.

Step 2

An Open Broadband installation representative will come to your home to determine the best location for optimal signal and speed. Installation of the high speed fixed wireless antenna will take approximately 1-3 hours.

Getting Connected

After installation is complete the Open Broadband representative will setup the provided WiFi router and assist you with connecting your devices. Though we do provide home WiFi routers you may elect to configure and use your own.

Open Broadband is a fixed-wireless internet service provider based in North Carolina. Our team is comprised of telecom experts who are committed to providing reliable, high-speed internet at affordable rates to underserved and unserved populations throughout the state. We specialize in public-private partnerships by working with municipalities and counties to provide internet to their residents and businesses.

Who can sign up?

Anyone! We provide high-speed internet to private residences, businesses, municipalities and institutions like universities and airports.

Is there a cost or commitment to sign up on your waitlist?

No. Signing up on our waitlist simply indicates you are interested. There is no cost or commitment. We will contact you once we can serve your address.

What is the timeline for service in Orange County?

Open Broadband entered a 3-year contract with the county to roll out broadband service to those who previously did not have access to 25 Mbps internet speeds. Initial customer activations began in May 2019.


We are currently working in the Cedar Grove and North Efland area. The next areas to be served will be Schley and northern Hillsborough. To stay up to date on where our representatives are working please sign up on our waitlist. Everyone on the waitlist will receive a monthly newsletter to keep everyone up to date.


Please be aware that the incumbent ISPs had decades to build out their networks, and they never provided broadband speeds to the areas where we are deploying. Our company is small and deploying service as fast as we are able. It is going to be a long project.

How can I persuade Open Broadband to prioritize serving my area?

We review the waitlist to determine the interest level. The more interest, the higher that area goes on our priority list. Please tell your neighbors to sign up on the waitlist. We encourage you to share this page on Facebook,, and other social media channels of choice.

Does weather affect Open Broadband Fixed Wireless internet?

Open Broadband Fixed Wireless Internet relies on several different technologies to reach customer sites. Many things can affect the availability and quality of your Service, including network capacity, terrain, buildings, foliage, and weather. A professional installer will confirm sufficient signal strength at your location before installation.

What type of support is available for Open Broadband Fixed Wireless?

Open Broadband prides itself on offering local North Carolina 24×7 customer support via our call center located in Wilson, North Carolina.

What service limitations apply to Open Broadband Fixed Wireless?

Services like Web hosting or hosted services such as camera, gaming server, peer-to-peer, etc., that require static IP address are generally not supported by Open Broadband Fixed Wireless Internet. Open Broadband Fixed Wireless Internet may not be compatible with DVR/Satellite systems; please check with your provider. Static IP addresses are available on a case-by-case basis.
