Broadband is coming to Orange County!
Be sure to join the Orange County waitlist to get high-speed internet. We’ll be sending monthly newsletters to keep you updated on our progress. We’ve been working hard, in partnership with Orange County, to provide residents with affordable high-speed internet as quickly as possible, but we’re still a few months away from getting our first customer connected here. We appreciate your patience!
When will I get service?
From November 2018 to March 2019 Open Broadband will be installing a fiber connection to the county, and will mount antennas on several towers in the northern end of the county. County officials identified northern Orange County as a priority, with initial coverage areas planned for Phase 1 on the map. The first customer activation in Phase 1 is planned for April 2019.
Assuming all goes well, the county will give the green light for Open Broadband to build Phase 2 in the southern part of Bingham Township. The first customer activation in this area is likely to be Summer 2019. Click on the map for a high resolution image.
FAQs
How does your service work?
Open Broadband provides a hybrid fiber and fixed-wireless internet service solution. We have a data center facility with 12 fiber providers and abundant access to the internet backbone. We lease fiber from the data center to the local community. We place antennas on existing infrastructure like water towers, communication towers, poles and tall buildings, which emit a wireless signal to a small receiver mounted on your home or business.
What will be installed at my house?
Installation is similar to that of DirectTV. Open Broadband will mount an antenna near the roof of your home, or on a nearby pole or garage. The antenna is much smaller than a DirectTV dish, it’s more the size of a dinner plate. We then run ethernet cable from the antenna to a location within your home where you would like the router located. The router we provide includes Wi-Fi, however you can use your own router if desired.
Can I stream multiple videos simultaneously with your service?
Yes you can. With a minimum 25Mbps connection you can have several people streaming videos in your home while others are surfing the web or checking email.
Will there be data caps?
No, we provide unlimited usage with no data caps, no overage charges and no throttling.
