We’re Almost There!
It’s April, which means our equipment is here and ready to go, with our tower climbers on standby. All we are waiting for is the final green light from the county which should be any day now. Once we get the go-ahead, tower climbers will install our antennas on the towers and beta customers will be turned up during a controlled introduction period as we test the network.
Once the network is confirmed to be up and running properly, we will begin customer installations in mass. However, installing customers will still take many months as the waitlist is very long. We know that you’re anxious for service, but please be patient and know that we are working hard to get you service ASAP.
What do I need to do? Nothing! If you’re getting this email, we have your contact information and we will contact you directly when service is available at your location. Once the network is up and running, we will publish a schedule with estimates of when we will be in which neighborhoods. Please understand that responding to each “when will I get service” email and social media requests takes use away from actually getting you service faster.
Our Technology: Line of Sight vs. Non-Line of Sight
Pictured: Residential customer receiving high-speed internet through trees
We use fixed-wireless technology which beams internet to your home from our nearest tower. Our towers are located within the county and connected to our data center in Charlotte through a fiber circuit. Latency is very low and the speed is fast – far superior to satellite, DSL, or cellular hotspots.
We have two types of antennas:
Type 1 requires a clear line-of-sight between
25 Mbps download, 25 Mbps upload for $39.99/mo
50 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload for $59.99/mo
100 Mbps download, 100 Mbps upload for $79.99/mo
Type 2 does not require clear line-of-sight, and will work through trees! However due to the nature of the technology we can only offer the following:
25 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload for $39.99/mo
We will try Type 1 at your house and use it if at all possible, as it gives you the fastest speed at the lowest cost. However, if your house requires Type 2, and most of the homes on our waitlist fall into this category, we will still provide service much faster and more reliably than what is available on DSL or satellite. With both antennas types, we provide service with unlimited data with no caps, no throttling, no overages, no contracts and no hidden fees.
Sometimes getting the best signal requires placing the antenna on a pole or other creative solutions. Our installation representatives will work with you to get the best service possible.
Interested in working with us?
We’ve begun interviewing local installers and are looking to hire entry-level installation representatives (see job description). Interested applicants should email a resume to info@openbb.net for consideration.
